Many migrants have been frustrated there is no simple pathway to bring parents to New Zealand for extended periods or as residents. This may soon change.

The government campaigned on rolling out a five-year multiple entry visitor visa for parents. This visa would be extendable by another five years (allowing a total stay of 10 years in New Zealand). There is going to be a requirement for some form of insurance cover over the life of the visa to make sure parents can access healthcare without adding cost to the taxpayer. Based on current insurance products for visitors this may prove to be expensive but no doubt worthwhile to have mum and dad by your side.

The rules for this visa still need to be worked out and there is no timeframe for when the visa will open for applications.

Malcolm Pacific Immigration are closely watching the development of this new parent visa. We will keep you posted with progress and can help you to be front of the queue when applications finally open. If you would like to register interest for this new visa, simply email your name and contact phone number to info@ausfortunemigration.com

In the meantime, the three-year parent (allowing a maximum stay of 18 months) multiple entry visitor visa, the parent residence category and parent retirement category all remain open for applications.
